While tar can important and useful in a variety of ways, when it gets on hardwood flooring, it can be immensely difficult to get rid of. In this week’s blog, we present to you an easy guide to removing tar from hardwood flooring. Eliminate this sticky, messy substance from your home or business’s flooring, and get it out of your life.
What Does Removing Tar from Hardwood Flooring Need?
Use a Dull Scraper: A dull scraper is considered the best tool for this task. What you should do is exercise extreme caution, as you don’t want to leave scratches or gouges in your beautiful hardwood. But all that said, choose a popsicle stick or a plastic spatula for this purpose; although they might seem like unconventional implements, with something sharper you run the risk of damaging your floor.
Try Using Ice: Ice and ice cubes can help expedite the process. With the ice, you can freeze the tar before attempting to remove it. Put some ice cubes in a plastic bag and drop it on the top of the tar patch. Once the tar freezes up and becomes more brittle, it should be able to remove it chunk by chunk.
Or Try Using a Scouring Pad: Or, you could try using a scouring pad. Scouring pads are good tools to use against more stubborn tar stains. Choose a pad with a fine grade to minimize any potential damage to your hardwood floor. Also, be sure to use small, circular motions when you scour. Avoid using too much pressure on the patch of tar, as well.
Perhaps Try Using Acetone: Is your wood flooring or hardwood laminated? If this is the case, you might have to try a different method of tar removal. That method involves trying acetone. First, add a small amount of the acetone to a clean cloth. With that clean cloth, start wiping from the edges of the floor. Move in towards the center so you don’t make the mess any worse.
